Yaaaaayyyyy!

Quote o' the weekend- "Yaaaayyyyyy!" - Lerah and Rachel

Well, as Jenshka has already mentioned, me, her and Diane (and Todd, Sappy, Drew and Laurie) went down to Panama City early to set up for the "Face to Face" retreat. It was pretty darn fun. Me and Jenna spent about 6 hours duct taping a floor. Very exciting stuff.

You'd never think that would have taken 6 hours. But, then, I was never very good at geometry. Combine that with my and Jenna's perfectionist tendencies and it makes for slow progress. However, we were both very excited about how the "labyrinth" turned out.

My favorite part of the pre-retreat time we had was a trip to the Russian food store! Heck da! In P.C. there's a "Moscow Grocery and Internet Cafe" place and they had a board with common Russian phrases outside the door and they had the ketchup I love the Tорчин продукт кетчуп and that was very exciting. And, just for Carli, we picked up some green apple juice. :0) But, that actually turned out to be Bulgarian. Whatever.

Anyway, we went to Walmart a couple times and visited home depot and Todd bought us some snacks because he is awesome. Then me and Jenna, Sappy and Diane decided it was photo time.

What is it?

It's beautiful...

Am I:

a) a turned over table
b) a dead cockroach
c) really glued to a ceiling that just looks like a floor?

Before I lost my shoe. When my feet were clean.

Jenna's only smiling because she doesn't see the gigantic spider crawling towards her head.

One of our trips to Walmart:

Shannon and Diane

Lollipops are good.

Very good.

What? We weren't taking pictures in Walmart. What are you talking about?

Jenna and Shannon eating their gigantic cheap walmart sandwiches

After much hard work and lots of play, the youth arrived on Friday and we spent some quality time with Jesus this weekend. It was awesome.

"Best friends! Yaaaayyyyy!" Rach and Lerah

Me and Jenshka getting ready for some serious recreation! Fish fling! Here we come!

My small group! Me, Jenna, Rachel, Anna, Lerah and Callie. We were AWESOME!!! Freakly awesome.

One of the coolest people I know, Christian Horton.

Me and Lerah

Our group!

Everybody who's anybody. :0)

Between flying fish, human sand sculptures, intense (like the circus) volleyball games, escaping out windows, one-on-one time with Jesus, roof climbing, play dough molding, birthday cake eating (Happy Birthday, Lerah!!!), and dance parties, it was an awesome weekend. I would write longer, but I need to go do some serious homework. Love ya! Arrivederci!

Oh, P.S. I got this "tag I'm it" thing, so to be a good sport, here are the rules:

Ground Rules: The 1st player of this "game" starts with the topic "5 weird habits of yourself" and people who get tagged need to write a xanga entry about their 5 weird habits as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose the next 5 people to be tagged and list their names. Don't forget to leave a comment that says "You are tagged" in their xanga and tell them to read yours.

5 weird habits of yourself:

1. I'm obsessed with things being symmetrical. Like, really. It drives me crazy when things aren't symmetrical. Just ask Jenna.

2. I like to turn on movies and not watch them. I just like to have them on, like, while I'm doing homework and stuff. I'm not actually watching them, it's just nice to have something on.

3. I generally have warm clothes within walking distance of me at all times because I am always cold. So it might be 90 degrees out, but I will probably still have a sweater with/on me at all times. And when I don't, you will probably know because you will hear my teeth chattering and see my arms and legs shaking uncontrollably.

4. I really like things to be spelled/stated correctly. My grammar's not always perfect, but it really bothers me when people do not distinguish between "it" and "it's," and "than" and "then," "here" and "hear," "to," "two" and "too," and "there," "they're," and "their." (However, if English is not your first language, then I don't mind at all.) So, I usually proofread my blogs because I really don't like them to be messed up.

5. I'm obsessed with water, but I despise taking showers. So, I'm only in the shower for about 3 minutes every morning. I jump in and out as fast as I can. I just, really, really don't like taking showers. I don't know why. (Don't worry, though. I really do shower.)

Well, now that that's done, I will tag, um, Todd, Carli, Lerah, Tanya and Zhenya.

Arrivederci!

Slavic Food Night :0)

Well, 3 days of cooking definitely paid off. I think this was the best Slavic Food Night I've been to. All of us who cooked had so much fun. (Well, I had fun at least. I guess I can't speak for them. But, I think they had fun.) It was so incredibly crazy because at 7:00 we still had tons of food cooking, but it all worked out and we didn't even run completely out of food, which was amazing. And we got to listen to some Okean El'zy and some awesome Serbian music that Nina had, the name of which I don't remember at the moment. I didn't get to eat that much stuff, but I tried Derek's Khachapuri bread and it was awesome. It's Georgian cheese bread. Sooo good. And Nina made some great Serbian food, and Andrey made these cabbage rolls and I have 3 of them in my fridge right now and I'm looking forward to eating them. And John made this really good salad with the most random things in it, but it was so good. It had like, beets, pickles, peas, vinagrette dressing, potatoes, dill. It was good. I also have some of that in my fridge. Jenshka's Czech pastries went pretty fast, though, so I didn't get to try any of those. I'm sure they were good. We made over $250 dollars, so that was nice. Me and John get to figure out ways to spend money Wednesday. I like spending money. :0) Here's some pictures:

I even told them to smile.

Jenn kept blinking in the pictures, so she finally just put her sunglasses on. :0)

Quote o' the yesterday

"That's not all my beef...I mean, you're talkin' meatball. I'm talkin' porterhouse."
-Kenley Stringer

20 days and counting... arrivederci.

Why is it so hot in this kitchen? (And if I think it's hot, it really must be hot.)

Cameron was adjusting the new/old fan we got today. New because it's normally not in the house, it's in the garage. But it replaced our broken one. It's old because, well, it's freakin' old. So, anyway, Cam is messing with this fan and it's not working real well and he says:
"Man, this fan blows!"
Brilliant observation, Cameron. Just brilliant.
Arrivederci!

Chris' last football game was last night. :0( But Leon beat Rickards 31-20, so that was cool. I love it when we play Rickards. Their band is so awesome. And so are their dancers. Their crowd dances through the whole football game. It's amazing. In fact, some Leon fans just might have gone over there and joined them for a little while...and one of them just might have happened to be Christian Horton...and he just might have been doing the robot while everyone else was booty dancing. But, then, that's just a theory. Malorie Horton got to kick a punt! It was awesome!

Arrivederci!

What Do We Pay Weather Men For?

Okay, so I'm watching the Midday News and Rob Nucatola said this about the rain:
"It may or may not hit this weekend." Well, good, Rob, I guess I can plan my bar-b-que now. Make sure y'all people take your umbrellas with you this weekend. It may or may not rain.

PCBS Pumpkin Party

Yeeesssss, PCBS Pumpkin Party's are awesome. On the back porch. Leah is a great pumpkin carver. I had no idea the hidden talents of our bible study members. I mean, Lerah is a professional pet therapist (certainly the best I can afford), Bakah is an expert salesperson and an expert on everything Vera Bradley, Jenna is the Julia Child (that one's for Diane) of cupcake making, Ruth is the makeup diva of the world, Grace is hair-dying genius and world-renown earring connoisseur, and Rachel is just good at everything. So, I leave you all with pictures from my famous (or soon to be) PCBS members.

ewwww, pumpkin guts

Oh gevalt! It's eating Leah's hand! (It's okay, Leah, you have two.)

Me and Bakah

Are they beautiful, or what?

Being the environmentally friendly, green peace group that we are, we make sure to use the whole pumpkin. Seeds and all. Yum. Anna's excited.

I think Anna told me not to put this picture up here. But, I can't remember. Oh well.

Leah's skill being enjoyed by all.

It's so beautiful.

Jenshka and Anna

Ruth and Jenshka

I love this picture. It makes me happy.

Can you find my feet? They're the ugly ones.

Arrivederci!

Sarah's Visit

I finally got a new card reader, so here's the pictures from Sarah's visit. :0)
(Ya'll can just copy the pictures from here, right Jenshka, Sarah and Bakah? I hope so.)

Decked out in Auburn-wear getting ready to go to Beef-o-Brady's to watch the game.

Sing, Jenna. Just let it out.

Okay, we were a little scary.

Hotwings were a great invention.

Sad day. Auburn lost.

Sarah and Jenshka with their $8 FSU sweatshirts from Target. Who could pass that up? (well, besides me)

So cute.

Me and Ponch.

Slavic Food Night

When: Monday, November 7th, 7:00 p.m.
Where: The International Student Center
Who: Those who would like to experience a taste of Central and Eastern Europe.
Price: $5

Happy Birthday...hey, what's your name?

Well, my evil midterm is over and the rejoicing began at about 4:42 this afternoon. After a quick trip to the bank I came home and wanted to get on the computer, but comcast was out (again) so I didn't. Instead I ate some leftover pelmeni (yeeessss) and sat down to watch a Cheers marathon in which they were playing all the episodes where Gary plays pranks on the bar. Those are some of my favorites. I think my favorite thing from watching that was when Fraiser said to Woody, "Well, Woody, you know what they say. Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it." Woody replied, "You know, that is so true, Dr. Krane. I was doomed to repeat history three times in highschool."

Woody: What's shakin', Mr. Peterson?
Norm: All four cheeks and a couple of chins.

Norm: Women. You can't live with 'em... Pass the beernuts.

Coach: Norm, how come you and Vera never had any kids?
Norm: I can't, Coach.
Coach: Gee, I'm sorry Norm.
Norm: Just look at Vera. I mean, I just can't.

Coach: [answering the phone] Cheers. Ok, wait a minute, I'll check. Is there an "Ernie Pantusso" here?
Sam: That's you, Coach.
Coach: Speaking.

Diane: What could be more enjoyable than opening your heart this holiday season?
Carla: Opening yours with a can opener?

Cliff: How would the Civil War had changed if Abraham Lincoln had octopus tentacles instead of a beard?

Cliff: The Hindus believe that what you come back as depends upon your behavior in your this life. If you led a good life, you come back in an elevated state.
Coach: Like Colorado?

Coach: It's the darndest thing, I've been shivering all of the way over here.
Diane: Well Coach you don't have a coat on. It's thirty degrees outside.
Coach: Oh, thank God. I thought I had malaria.

Cliff: If I wasn't wearing this uniform, I'd ask you to step outside.
Norm: If you weren't wearing that uniform, we'd all step outside

Woody: How can Darth Vader be Luke Skywalker's father? They don't even have the same last name.

Sam: "Woody, could you add up these receipts?"
(Woody feels through the receits)
Woody: "There's eight of them, Sam."

Cliff: What a pathetic display. I'm ashamed God made me a man.
Carla: I don't think God's doing a lot of bragging either.

That show is the best. Anyway, after watching a couple episodes I went to Jenshka's house where, me, Jenna, Daniel L., Diane, Lerah, Shannon and Kenley were gonna have us a halloween party. We hung out for a while, and then we decided we would go trick-o-treating. None of us had brought costumes, so we whipped out some Mardi Gras masks and a couple of hats and wigs and started walking around the neighborhood. Now, I know what you're thinking. Y'all are freakin' in college, why the heck are you trick-o-treating? Well, so as not to disappoint people, we jazzed up our excursion a bit and decided we would Christmas carol as we went. The first few houses we sang "It came upon a midnight clear", but when I realized that no one knows the words to Christmas carols anymore (what is this world coming to? those are the best songs ever) we switched to just the beginning of "the first noel." After a few houses with our carolling, we switched to singing "happy birthday" to the people whose houses we stopped at. When we got to "Happy birthday dear, _____" we simply said, "Hey, what's your name?" and they'd tell us and we'd fill in the blank. It was very exciting. We went to this one house and this college-aged guy answered the door and we sang to him and his name was Marquis and he kept saying, "Yall, it's not my birthday" cause I guess he thought we were serious or something. Then, as we're walking down the driveway these little kids are walking towards the door and I say, "Hey guys. Make sure you tell Marquis 'Happy Birthday' cause it's his birthday today." Yeeessss. I waited til they got to the door and listened to them. (You have to use your imagination and put in the little ghetto voices.) They said, "man, happy bir'day, Maaaquis. Yeah, man, happy bir'day." And I hear Marquis say, "Ya'll it ain't my bir'day." Then I hear them start getting all flustered and say "Man, dat girl told us it was yo bir'day. Dey lied to us. What!?" It was funny.
Anyway, after that we came back to the house and roasted marshmallows and did some serious candy trading. I got some milkduds and dots out of the deal and I think everyone was pretty happy with their candy outcome.
Well, I'm gonna go to bed now.
Happy Halloween!
Arrivederci!

Quotes o' the Day

"Hey its me, Amberly (which automatically lets you know that is is not--it is pasha) We are fine. We will be in kiev at 9:50 and I think I have to shave my face. And remember philosophy is very important, but what you do you know. See you soon, baby." -Pasha's text message to Lori this morning

Learn Chinese In Five Minutes (from Sarah Wirgau)

Yeeesssss. This is so awesome. You have to read it outloud, though, or it doesn't work. Cause some of them I was confused. Some of them weren't appropriate, so I erased them. :0) I saw this on Tamara's facebook. I think Scott Beasley or something posted it. This sounds like something Scott would find.

(You MUST read them out loud or it doesnt make as much sense)...

Okay, when Sarah was here, she had a new frisbee and she named it "P.F.Chang" which is apparently the name of this Chinese Restaurant.

Anyway, she said her and her friend Shelly were driving past a sign for it and Sarah started saying "P.F. Chang", but saying it very slowly with her face all scrunched up and trying to sound chinese. (You have to have her do it for you. It's hillarious.) Well, the joke was started so every time her and Shelly saw a P.F. Chang's Sarah would say "P.F.Chang" very slowly and with a funny face. She told Shelly, "Shelly, I love talking in Chinese. We should talk in Chinese all the time." Shelly told Sarah, "You're not talking in Chinese, Sarah, you're talking with your eyes squinted." I think Sarah was heartbroken after that. Oh well. Arrivederci!

Since no one in their right mind would name anything "Calyn" (Except for maybe the Irish, but they spell things simply. No one has any trouble pronouncing the town of Callan.) I decided that it would be a waste of time to plug my name into the slogan generator. So, I tried to think of a better thing. I figured our drama team could use a slogan. So, let's see what the generator has for "The Tree."

Made In Scotland From The Tree.
Ding-Dong! The Tree Calling!
Mum's Gone to The Tree.
Melts In Your The Tree, Not In Your Hand.
It Takes A Tough Man To Make A Tender The Tree. (That sounds like something off of a Strong Bad email. Let's plug in The Cheat.)
Smart. Beautiful. The Cheat.
Make Room for the The Cheat.
The The Cheat that Smiles Back.
The Cheat. It's What's For Dinner.

Okay, well, I don't know if any of those will work for me, but they entertained me for about 5 minutes while I took a break from making notecards for 4 hours. Yes, that's right. 4 hours. And I'm only halfway done. I haven't even started studying yet. I'm just making notecards. Meh. At the rate I'm going I might be done by 12:00. Maybe I'll turn into a pumpkin or something after that. But, at least on Saturday we get an extra hour. I'm gonna need it. Arrivederci!

Jared Imparts His Wisdom

So the other day I'm at Northwoods and Jared Smith walks in with his arm in a sling and I say, "Jared! What happened?" He says, "Well, it's a funny story, actually. I was at a party the other night and one of my friends was bragging about how he knew how to escape from a straightjacket. So, I wanted him to teach me. Never have someone try to teach you how to get out of a straightjacket at the top of a stairwell..."
I know it was sad, but I was laughing so hard. I couldn't make up a better story about how I hurt my arm than that one. I mean, who else can say they fell down a stairwell in a straighjacket? So, I told him I was gonna post it on my blog and he said okay. I asked if he had any comment he would like to add, and he said this: "Don't worry about the world ending today. It's already tomorrow in Austrailia." Wise words, Jared. Thank you for that. Arrivederci!

Wednesday, October 26, 2005

I would just like to say that it is 50 degrees in Ukraine and 42 degrees in Florida! I'm just gonna throw that out there. Record highs last week, record lows this week. A freakin' hurricane comes through and Tallahassee doesn't get a drop of rain. We have the weirdest weather ever. I'm about to die, so I'm going to bed. Arrivederci!

"Calyn Is Not Yet Dead..."

You can stick my name into the Ukrainian national anthem that's playing and you'll know I'm still here. I know, I know, it's been like, 3 days. I've been slacking. But Sarah came into town on Friday afternoon and left at 7 this morning, so I haven't had a chance to get on the computer...or do homework. (The latter is presenting quite a problem at the moment, but I won't bore you with those details.)
First I want to give a shoutout to Todd and say "Happy Birthday!" It's Todd's birthday. You should call and sing to him if you haven't done so already. Next I would like to say that Jenshka and I just got done with a meeting for Slavic Food Night and if you're around here on Monday, November 7th at 7:00 p.m., you should most definitely come because it is going to be freakin' good. We're having Russian, Ukrainian, Georgian, Uzbek, Serbian and Polish food and it's gonna rock the house. Best part is it's only $5. I've got tickets. Talk to me.
I was gonna post pictures from this weekend, but our stupid picture card reader isn't working and Bakah is going to be very disappointed because I'm supposed to send them to her...oops.
Okay, so the weather is absolutely gorgeous and we (jenna, sarah, bekah and I) slept on the backporch Friday and Saturday night and it was awesome. We actually got cold! Amazing! It can stay like this forever.
Quote o' the weekend:
"That's my special applesauce. I brought it from home." - Joe Lyons
Okay, y'all have a great evening! Happy Birthday, Todd and Jared!
